Plant Profile:

SLIM™ Callistemon viminalis 'CV01' PBR

Callistemons, or Bottlebrush as they are commonly known, belong to the Myrtaceae family which are grown all over the world for their brilliant, brightly coloured flower display, hardiness, drought tolerance and bird-attraction. The variety Slim has been proven to be highly resistant to the disease Myrtle Rust, which is currently affecting other species of the Myrtaceae family.

Slim, a unique Callistemon with a narrow slimline growth habit will provide landscape gardeners with a beautiful flowering bottlebrush that can be used in tight planting areas such as thin garden beds, along a fence line or a wall. Slim is a native that has the ability to be used in narrow areas as a screen or for hedging and it will take up less space.

In early spring Slim will start to develop a large number of flowering buds, which will cover the whole plant. These flower buds will open to a classic yet stunning colourful display throughout spring and later again in autumn. It grows to approx 3m tall x 1.2m wide and with pruning can be kept shorter between 1.5m-3m high and as thin as 60cm in width. Slim can be pruned to shape after flowering to encourage beautiful new growth. Slim requires very minimal pruning to stay narrow and can be left to grow in its naturally slim shape.
Slim will tolerate full sun to part shade. It can tolerate extended dry periods and will grow in sandy soils through to heavier well drained soils, it is drought tolerant and will tolerate light to moderate frosts.
